The biggest misconception with Towbars is that you only need only a light duty towbar to suit these duties, well I can say that even I have been corrected on that issue. Towbars have their limits, especially "Ball Weight" even though some Towbars can tow up to 3500 kgs, "Ball Weight" limit can be far less. Towbars are designed to pull not so much support, as on a Trailer, most of the weight is distributed through the wheels. So careful thought and consideration must be taken into how many bikes you will be carrying and the weight of the Bike Rack together on the Tow Ball or Hitch. So when you do look at having a Towbar installed, take the time to ask this question and do be realistic. Towbars, in general, are probably the handiest of accessories available. There are many add ons that can be accessed, from Towbar mounted load carriers, Towbar mounted supports for watercraft i.e Canoes, Surf Skis, Bike Racks...To name a few.
